Slow Road to San Francisco with David Reynolds

by Jeremy Bassetti
Slow Road to San Francisco David Reynolds

In 2018, David Reynolds rented a Chevy Cruze and hit Route 50, driving as slowly as he could across the United States from Ocean City, Maryland to San Francisco, California. He snaked through the Blue Ridge Mountains, passed through the American heartland, and bounded over the continental divide, driving from sea to shining sea. David comes on the podcast to talk about his experiences, which he documented in his new book Slow Road to San Francisco (Muswell 2020). We recorded this conversation in November 2020.

Just to say thanks, Jeremy. I discovered your podcast recently and have listened to a number of your interesting interviews with travel writers. I appreciate your calm, “non-commercial,” and thoughtful manner – and that you are a good listener. I am a 74-year-old ex-Californian who has lived in London for 30 years with my South African wife. Self-published literary novel coming out in September (not a travel book). What first attracted me to your podcast was your discussion of Laurie Lee.
